Olive’s Lane is so much more than just a cafe. It’s a place where we give young people like Ollie a chance, and open the door on a different future.
Ollie has confidence, enthusiasm and drive. He wants to succeed in his chosen career and he’s on his way there. But it wasn’t always this way for him.
Ollie was just 10 years old when he began engaging with programs at St Kilda PCYC. It’s been a safe and supportive place for him when life was tough. Now he’s finished high school, and under the guidance of our head barista, Dennis Gray, he’s fulfilling his dream of becoming a barista.
The mentoring and support we offer at St Kilda PCYC is truly life-changing for people like Ollie.

We all remember our first job, the excitement of having our own money, and probably spending most of it immediately!
For many of the young people we support right now at St Kilda PCYC, that first job, the first ‘big break’ into the workforce, feels impossible.
Because when you’re battling financial insecurity, difficult relationships at home and at risk of homelessness, there’s no confidence to apply for a job. And there’s often no supportive adult to guide and believe in you.
When we launched our Olive’s Lane training café we could never have imagined what an impact it would have on our community. Dozens of young people have been nurtured and supported with work experience, and the change we have seen has been extraordinary.
Named for our founder, Olive’s Lane has launched careers and given kids like Ollie the self-belief they need to become inspirational leaders and step out into the workforce.
Olive’s Lane is not just a place to get great coffee. It’s a real world training ground for young people to learn responsibility, leadership, technical skills, money handling and vital social skills – everything they need to begin a career with confidence.
